Southall Farm and Inn, is a premier destination bringing nature, produce and people together in a powerful and unique way. This position will be responsible for the stewardship of land management including horticultural elements, florals, gardens, agricultural fields, and related programs. Southall has a commitment to managing the property with ecological principles and leaning towards a future with biodynamic management practices and sustainable decision making.

Job responsibilities:

• Public space indoor plants and flower arrangements
  • Regular floral arrangements for the Inn and Dottie’s Speakeasy
  • Additional event and/or quest arrangements as requested by Southall teams
  • Weekly watering and maintenance of banquet potted plants
  • Source/harvest additional flowers as needed
• Manage and maintain flower pots and planters throughout the property
  • Assist with design, planting and maintenance of seasonal color program
    • Spring, Summer, and Fall rotations
  • Regular watering and fertilization
  • Work with culinary team as needed to determine needs for specific planters
• Cut flower field management
  • Village flower field
    • Assist with design and maintenance
    • Maintain overall health and appearance
    • Weed control
    • Create and maintain pathways through fields
    • Replace/repair damaged areas
    • Communicate and work with Retail staff through farm stand
  • Kitchen Garden
    • Assist with design and maintenance of cut flower beds
    • Harvest blooms for interior arrangements
    • Create and lead guest flower programming with Programming Manager
    • Weed control
    • Water and pest management as needed
• Potential to work with 3rd party wholesalers to provide additional foliage or plants for on site events

Required Qualifications and Experiences

• 2 years of relevant work experience within the fields of floral design, fine gardening, and/or landscaping, etc.
• Passion for interacting with and educating guests, visitors and staff of varied ages and backgrounds.
• Cooperative, service-oriented attitude and ability to work independently and take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship development skills
• Creative skills and ability to experiment to attain new, better strategies, approaches, and solutions to challenges.
• Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks along with an ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, team environment.
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience in a hospitality environment
• Knowledge of plant species and climate specific to Tennessee or similar zones

Essential Physical Tasks

• Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, cutting, and carrying.
• Equipment Used: UTVs, Carts, delivery truck, pick-up truck, rental equipment, hand tools, power tools, computer.
