Beekeeping Apprentice

The Pollination program’s Beekeeping Apprentice position at Southall Farm & Inn is rewarding and challenging. We actively manage over 100 honeybee colonies year-round, perform weekly apiary tours, honey tastings, and collaborate on projects with almost every department on property. Our beekeeping apprentice will be trained and entrusted to lend an extra hand to every member of the team in every aspect of our operation. Every day will be different and include tasks such as maintaining healthy beekeeping populations, assisting on property tours/tastings, harvesting honey, packaging and delivering products for culinary and retail use, assembling woodenware, feeding colonies, and other chores as needed. Applicants must be prepared to work in different capacities depending on seasonal demands and be ready to pivot at any time. At Southall Farm & Inn, we blend agricultural production, guest facing interaction, and aesthetic beauty to achieve a space where passionate farmers grow healthy food that is highlighted by talented chefs to be enjoyed by wonderful guests under the blue skies of middle Tennessee.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.

  • Operate and work around venomous insects in extreme hot and cold environments.

  • No known allergies to bee stings.

  • Ability to work Tuesday - Saturday of every week.

  • Ability to work on hands and knees for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to obtain a valid TN TIPS certificate within 3 months of hire (for serving alcohol).

  • The job may also require lifting objects up to 50 lbs. multiple times per day.

  • Some of your daily work will be guests facing and you will be required to greet guests politely!

  • Members of the pollination team will be asked to operate outside rain or shine!

  • You must demonstrate the ability to stay focused and efficient without supervision.

  • Good communication, teamwork, and a solution-based attitude are all MUSTS.

Preference given to those with:

  • Previous beekeeping experience

  • Familiarity with beekeeping operations and farming practices

  • Flexibility for working weekends and holidays

  • Customer service experience

  • Ability to speak in front of groups of 10 or more people

  • Woodworking and use of basic hand tools

Skills and Experience:

  • Valid driver’s license

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
