The General Manager of Sojourner Restaurant is responsible for the overall leadership, operational excellence, and financial performance of Sojourner. This role oversees all restaurant operations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring exceptional guest experiences delivered at a Forbes Travel Guide–level standard of service.
The General Manager will lead and develop a high-performing team, collaborate closely with culinary leadership, and consistently uphold Southall’s commitment to luxury hospitality, farm-driven cuisine, and personalized service.
Responsibilities
- Lead all front-of-house and restaurant operations with a service philosophy aligned to Forbes Travel Guide standards and Southall Pillars
- Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a polished, professional service team including Assistant Manager
- Coach team members on anticipatory service, personalization, and attention to detail
- Foster a positive, accountable, and service-driven work environment
- Conduct performance evaluations and support ongoing professional development
- Ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling for breakfast, lunch and dinner shifts
- Train and communicate the with team on menu changes and SOC’s regarding Southall and Sojourner operation
- Deliver a consistently elevated dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in accordance with Forbes-level luxury service expectations
- Model gracious hospitality and actively engage with guests to create meaningful, personalized experiences
- Address guest feedback and service recovery with professionalism, urgency, and empathy
- Ensure seamless communication and collaboration between front-of-house and culinary teams
- Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing procedures
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations
- Maintain immaculate cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout the restaurant
- Manage reservations, seating flow, and service pacing to support a refined guest experience in Tock
- Manage Micros system and ensure that buttons are properly made and pricing is correct
- Responsible for Tulip Poplar events and staying up-to-date on REO’s in Sojourner
- Manage labor and operating costs while maintaining Forbes-caliber service standards
- Review and analyze financial performance, forecasts, and key metrics
- Support revenue growth through strategic scheduling, service execution, and guest engagement
- Collaborate with leadership on operational efficiencies and service enhancements
- Manage Payroll including approving timecards and evention reports for Sojourner team
- Partner closely with the Executive Chef and culinary team to support menu execution and seasonal offerings
- Collaborate with hotel leadership, events, and other F&B outlets to ensure a cohesive guest experience
- Uphold and represent the Southall Farm & Inn brand with professionalism and integrity
- Manage menus updates from culinary team and communicate with Marketing to ensure online menus are up to date
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by Southall leadership
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years of luxury hospitality management experience, preferably in Forbes- or Michelin-recognized properties
- Demonstrated experience training teams in Forbes and Michelin service standards
- Strong understanding of refined dining service, including brunch and tea service formats
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment
- Passion for sustainability, thoughtful hospitality, and guest-centered service
Education & Experience
- 4-year college degree preferred, but combination of education and relevant position training and experience will be considered
- Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs
- Available to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays
- Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods as needed and able to work in all weather conditions
